Upton Park’s main focus is on Green Street, which is a little part of Asia that has been transported to England. It is here you can sample award winning food, buy designer clothes, lavish jewellery and shop for fresh produce in the local market. Be warned though, if you come around August 14th, there is a huge celebration to mark Pakistan’s Independence Day with a carnival taking the entire length of Green Street.
The area is also home to West Ham United Football Club. Located on the border with East Ham, it is here that Bobby Moore played and captained whilst being part of the team that won England the world cup in 1966. A monument to this achievement can be seen on the junction of Barking Road and Central Park Road in a sculpture by Phillip Jackson.
Access here is through Upton Park district line tube station or numerous buses that run the length of Green Street. The main housing stock in this area is Victorian terraces and is probably one of the more vibrant areas to live in Newham with the commercial hub that is Green Street.
